We have updated our publication which provides dependency percentages.
This publication uses 2003-04 Household Expenditure Survey data to suggest dependency percentages for survivors in different types of two-parent family, where one of the parents dies, and for one-parent families, where the parent dies. These percentages may provide a starting point for assessment of damages for economic loss by survivors of a deceased earner. The dependency estimates for two-parent families are very similar to earlier estimates based on the Household Expenditure Survey 1998-99.
The updated publication is available here.
