AMA Impairment calculator

As highlighted in the recent decision of Nicholls v Corlett & Ors [2010] VSC 115 (12 April 2010) the assessment of combined impairment values under a strict interpretation of the American Medical Association "Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment" (Fourth Edition) may vary depending on the order in which the impairments are evaluated. In specific cases, this may form the basis of dispute as to whether a claimant has entitlement to commence common law proceedings.

We have an Excel based calculator that can be used to identify the maximum combined impairment factors for up to 15 individual impairment values, in a much more efficient manner than trialling all possible permutations. The spreadsheet an be downloaded here. Currently this calculator is limited to a single bodily system though the procedure can be repeated to obtain maximum whole body impairment factors in a similar fashion.

Please note that you must set your Excel security settings to allow macros to run.
