Aged Care

All the directors have had ongoing involvement in the financial issues arising from the care of the elderly and an ageing population.

Hugh Sarjeant has been involved in long-term demographic projections for over a decade. We have developed models for projecting the expected cash flows of Retirement Villages.

As a firm we have been involved in the assessment of insurance schemes for the aged care industry. With Anna Howe as the co-author, Hugh developed a model for assessing the emerging costs of care for Australia, with the results presented in a paper to the Australian Association of Gerontology National Conference in 1998, and to the Productivity Commission in 1999. The papers from that conference are published as "Policy Implications of the Aging of Australia's Population", Commonwealth of Australia.

Hugh was also on the Institute of Actuaries of Australia working group in 1999 the "Financing the Ageing" committ ee, which prepared two papers. He was involved with the Long Term Care sub-committee of the Institute, and was on the expert panel assessing the Hogan enquiry.
